TRYON — Area youth ages 10 to 18 have the chance beginning this weekend to try out for the Tryon Summer Youth Theater production of “James and the Giant Peach.”

The musical, by Ronald Dahl, features a score by the Tony Award-winning team of Pasek and Paul (“Dear Evan Hansen,” “La La Land,” “Greatest Showman,” “Dogfight” and A Christmas Story the Musical”), said director Chris Tinkler.

Auditions will be held at 3 p.m. on April 15 and 6 p.m. on April 17 at Sunnydale, located at 334 S. Trade St., Tryon.

Youth auditioning should prepare a short selection from a musical and come dressed to move. There will be readings from “James and the Giant Peach.”

There is also a workshop to learn what to expect at auditions, learn some of the music and read from the script at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Tryon Little Theater Workshop, located at 516 S. Trade St., Tryon. Tinkler said the workshop will allow people to ask the director questions, and refreshments will also be served for children and their parents.

“James and the Giant Peach” will be from July 18-22 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
