Grant provides funding for Sunnydale’s new gutters

Thanks to a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation, gutters have at long last been installed on the Sunnydale Building on South Trade Street.

Originally built around 1930, Sunnydale has seen many incarnations, but, after much needed renovation by Bob and Jackie Lane — bringing the building back to its original state — the Lanes graciously donated the log cabin to Tryon Little Theater. Shortly thereafter, it received its Historic National Register listing.

Gutters were never historically on the building, but, after an inspection by a representative of the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office, the fixtures were recommended to help with ongoing moisture problems with the building.

“This building is such an important part of Tryon’s history,” said Susie Kocher, past president of Tryon Little Theater. “We are grateful to the Polk County Community Foundation for helping us preserve this wonderful structure.”

When TLT isn’t using the building for its own meetings, it’s rented to the public for receptions, weddings and conferences, which helps the organization support its mission of bringing live community theater to the area.
