Gayle McMillian Mitchell, 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1941, to the late James Robert and Bertha McCurry McMillian in Polk County. 

Gayle was a very strong, loving and selfless woman who would do anything in the world to help someone. She loved her friends and, most importantly, her family, dearly, and will be deeply missed.

Along with her parents, Gayle is preceded in death by her husband Billy Wade Mitchell.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Kevin Mitchell and girlfriend Regina Cole of Hickory and Derek Mitchell of Hickory; granddaughter, Meredith Mitchell and fiancé Jonathan Eckard of Hickory; grandson, Jordan Mitchell of Hickory; sister, Lynda Morgan; brother, Mike McMillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.

Her nephew, Pastor Monte Mitchell, will be officiating the service.

Pallbearers will include Nolberto Tornez, Dean Wimbush, Chad Wright, Trent Wright, Chris Watts and Adam Watts.
