St. Luke’s to host talk on dry needling Thursday

Published 8:00 am Tuesday, March 13, 2018

For people suffering with pain, dry needling is a useful treatment that licensed physical therapists use to stimulate myofascial trigger points to relieve pain and tension while improving range of motion and flexibility.

To learn more about dry needling, St. Luke’s Hospital’s rehab professional Patricia Renshaw will present a community HealthTalk on “Dry Needling: A Unique Approach to Muscular Pain.”

The presentation and opportunity to ask questions will be offered free for the community Thursday from 1-3 p.m. in the boardroom at St. Luke’s Hospital. Space is limited, so please call 828-894-8419 to reserve a seat.

With special training, therapists can use thin filiform needles in targeted areas to help release these trigger points. Dry needling is often used in combination with other modalities to treat the patient as a whole, allowing them to resume normal activities with less pain, and more freedom and mobility.
