Pastyme presents Choral Evensong at Holy Cross

Published 8:00 am Thursday, March 8, 2018

Pastyme will sing choral Evensong at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 150 Melrose Ave., Tryon, on Sunday, March 18 at 5 p.m.

Choral Evensong is the title given to the service of Evening Prayer. The settings of the Preces and Responses by Richard Shephard, as well as the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis by William Mundy, will be sung. The service will close with John Tavener’s setting of a funeral liturgy, which leads to the hope of resurrection.

Pastyme was formed by a group of friends who had been singing together in several Asheville ensembles before forming a partnership in 1999. Pastyme has performed at numerous venues and churches in the Southeast, including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta, the 2009 Echo Early Music Festival in Asheville and Greenville, South Carolina.
