A program, “Tales of Tryon,” about area houses on the Register of Historic Places, will be told by Gary Corn at the Tryon Historical Museum, 23 Maple St., Wednesday, March 14, at 4 p.m.

Mill Farm Inn, owned by Corn and James Blanton, was awarded this designation by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2009

“I plan to keep my talk pretty little, and include interesting antidotes about some of the characters associated with the six Tryon area houses listed in the register,” Corn said.

In addition to Mill Farm Inn, these include Stone Hedge Farm, Friendly Hills, Seven Hearths, Lyn Cote and Screven Plantation, all of which are private dwellings, as opposed to public and commercial historic properties such as the Tryon Daily Bulletin office, the Tryon Historic District, Tryon Country Club, and the Pine Crest Inn.

Corn, who is a local realtor with certification for historic properties, will also discuss the procedure for gaining historic places status, along with the responsibility for living in such a place.

This event is free and open to the public as is the museum, which is open Thursday through Saturday, from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
