A local Celtic fiddler and wood carver are among the offerings at an area artisan mall.

Tryon Celtic fiddler Jamie Laval will perform at Fletcher’s The Garage on 25 on Saturday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Laval ranks among the most celebrated musical personalities on the international touring circuit and will be presenting his unplugged show, “An Evening of Celtic Music and Mythic Tales.” Tickets and info may be found at www.BrownPaperTickets.com

Among the works one will find at The Garage are the whimsical wood carvings of B.J. Precourt. B.J. is salt of the earth North Carolinean, living and working in his homestead in the back woods of Tryon.

“Blackbirds have been darned popular,” he said, referring to the range of animal subjects he carves out of old chunks of two-by-fours.

The owners of The Garage on 25 have taken an eclectic approach to their artisan mall, mixing 80 artists, craftspeople and vintage pickers together under one roof.

Combined with a café, a music venue and an art studio, The Garage spotlights the colorful local arts scene in western North Carolina.

Represented are acclaimed folk artists, handmade furniture craftspeople, sculptors, potters, creative people who re-purpose, upcycle and recycle items into delightful creations, and a number of vintage pickers — furniture, home décor and the unexpected. The shop is about all things fanciful, owners said.

Workshops and classes in all manner of arts from acrylic painting, to copper etching, to found object jewelry making, and new, garbage art assembly fill the Garage’s studio calendar.

Rounding out the theme is the new stage, which hosts local singers and instrumentalists.
