The Spivey family is honored to partner with the Sunny View Clubhouse in establishing the Norman L. Spivey Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Created to honor the memory of Norman L. Spivey – Born in Green Creek from humble beginnings, he attended Polk Central High School and upon graduation joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country.  After being stationed at various bases throughout the United States and traveling to Okinawa, Japan, for several months near the end of the Vietnam War, Norman returned home, married and started a  family.

He settled in the Sunny View community and began his civil engineering career as a surveyor for a local company, Sam T. Marlowe and Associates. Norman went on to work for several surveying firms including Wolfe & Huskey in Lyman, South Carolina, building upon his skills.

He then joined the team of the Fluor Corporation as a layout engineer and foreman, working on many large scale projects including the Fluor Daniel Engineering Innovation Building at Clemson University.

Norman retired from Loveless Contracting in Cayce, South Carolina, after lending his expertise for more than 10 years.

Norman was also a passionate conservationist and community volunteer. He held a deep appreciation of nature and understood our individual responsibility preserving our local resources for future generations. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking and camping, enjoyed taking conservation classes and was a fan of the writings of Aldo Leopold.

Norman gave generously of his time to volunteer with a host of organizations whose missions included conservation components as well as a commitment to their local communities. Norman was a volunteer leader with Boy Scouts of America, the Polk County Gun Club and the Sunny View Clubhouse.

The family’s goal is to continue the tradition of making lasting contributions to the fields of civil engineering and conservation through the investment in our future generation and their education. This scholarship is open to any high school senior residing in Polk County who intends to pursue a career in either the civil engineering or conservation field.

Selected recipient will receive a one-time $1,000 award payable to the community college or university of their choice.
