Karl Avery Williams Jr., a mechanical engineer who worked for the DuPont Company for more than 30 years, died Feb. 18 in Charlotte. He was 92.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, to Helen Minter Bobo and Karl A. Williams Sr. Karl attended Cornell University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

He married Wilda Schaumann in 1948, and Barbara Karpas in 1992; they lived in Tryon, while Karl ran York Chemical in Greenville.

He is survived by his children, Jill Lucas (Bill), Nicki Williams, Scot Williams (Nan), and Peter Williams of Tryon; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
