Born in New York City and raised in Asheville bluesy rock ‘n roll band The Broadcast is bringing national attention to the regional music scene.

The Broadcast makes their Tryon debut as the headlining act of Chase Away the Blues at Tryon Fine Arts Center on Saturday, March 3.

Fronted by the explosive vocals of Caitlin Krisko, The Broadcast’s live shows bring back the spirit of high energy performances originally made famous by 1970s classic rock bands.

“This is some fine soulful classic rock. The female vocals provide a breath of fresh air in a male dominated field. The funkiness and soulfulness of the music provide for a relaxing listening session with enough boogie to get your feet moving,” according to The Ripple Effect music podcast.

Since 2013, The Broadcast has released two full length studio albums, and performed more than 1,000 shows across the United States and Europe, from intimate house concerts to sold-out amphitheaters.

More than 50 years ago, Bob Dylan traveled — as many would after him — from the American heartland to New York City, singing his way to the stage at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village. For Caitlin Krisko and her band The Broadcast, the story began at The Bitter End and wound up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Like Dylan in reverse, lead singer Krisko grew restless in the city that never sleeps and dropped everything to move to Asheville, in 2010. It was there Krisko met guitarist Aaron Austin, spending the next couple of years working as a songwriting duo, exploring “bombastic, larger-than-life” sounds. With maturity came the desire to explore something more grounded — something rooted in the Americana sounds of their new home in Appalachia.

With a mix of soul, blues and classic rock arrangements, The Broadcast has shared stages with Mavis Staples, John Prine, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, The Wood Brothers, Brandi Carlisle, Keller Williams, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, George Porter Jr. (Funky Meters), Betty LaVette, Charles Bradley and Holly Williams, among others.

The Broadcast will take the Main Stage at Chase Away the Blues at 7:20 p.m. and again at 10 p.m. Chase Away the Blues will also feature Citizen Mojo, the Shane Pruitt Band, and more regional artists for non-stop music and dancing from 5-11 p.m. at TFAC.

Performances will happen in multiple venues throughout the building, including an exclusive Patrons Lounge that turns an entire floor into a private blues club, with complimentary beverages, hors d’oeuvres and exclusive musical guests throughout the evening.
