COLUMBUS— A woman from Bessemer City took a Polk County Deputy on a 15-mile chase on Tuesday before being arrested with heroin and methamphetamine in her possession.

Chantiel Elizabeth McCullough, 40, of East Hartford Avenue, Bessemer City, was arrested and charged with felony flee to elude arrest, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance in the jail and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to sheriff’s office reports.

At approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday, Deputy Paul Fousek observed a pickup truck traveling on U.S. 74 with an invalid registration plate, said Capt. Lowell Griffin.

Fousek used his lights and siren to signal the vehicle to stop, but the truck accelerated, reaching speeds of approximately 90 mph, Griffin said.

McCullough exited at the Highway 9 South ramp and continued to turn onto several roads, with Fousek still in pursuit.

The truck finally turned on Ashlyn Lane, which is a dead end road, Griffin said. McCullough attempted to drive through the woods, but got stuck.

McCullough then fled on foot, but was apprehended by Fousek.

An investigation of the vehicle ended in officers discovering a substantial amount of methamphetamine, according to Griffin. After McCullough was transported to the sheriff’s office, officers found McCullough was also in possession of heroin.

McCullough was still in jail as of Thursday under a $150,000 secured bond.
