Columbus’ Hamby completes certification

Columbus Town Council recognized Capt. Scott Hamby of the police department for recently completing the Criminal Investigation Certificate Program through the North Carolina Justice Academy. Columbus Police Chief Chris Beddingfield (left) presented Hamby a plaque from the justice academy during town council’s meeting last Thursday. Hamby was also recently promoted to the rank of Captain by the Columbus Police Department, with responsibilities including scheduling training, grant administration, statistical data, major case investigation, equipment inventory and acting as the chief in the chief’s absence. Hamby is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and served overseas during the Gulf War. Hamby retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol before joining the Columbus Police Department.
