To earn second-place honors in Region 1-2A women’s basketball, Landrum’s Cardinals had to defeat Greer Middle College High School on Tuesday (February 6), and stop Blacksburg this Thursday (February 8).

The Cardinals accomplished the first of those challenges with ease, hammering GMCHS, 61-28, at Landrum. Pacing the Cardinals were Lindsey Hardin (13 points, including three three-pointers), Makena Israel (10 points), Sarah Price (nine), Alyssa Davis (eight), and scoring contributions from several others.

The Cardinals upped their overall record to 18-4, and their region mark to 7-2. Region frontrunner Christ Church Episcopal is now 9-0.

If they defeat Blacksburg (at Blacksburg), they’ll have second place. If not, they’ll play Blacksburg again, on Friday (at Chesnee) for second place. Blacksburg fell to 6-3 in the region, after Christ Church Episcopal hammered the Wildcats, 67-24, on February 6.

After that, it’s post-season play, at locations and times to be determined later.
