Storyteller Donna Washington takes Super Saturday listeners on a special journey

“Storytelling is about creating community…it is always about bringing us out of whatever reality we call home into a shared place…Only when we understand how similar we are will we be able to break down the barriers that separate us and cause so much dissent.”

With these words from her blog, storyteller Donna Washington distills the purpose and effect of her award-winning performances. Tryon area children and their families will have the opportunity on Super Saturday, March 17, to experience Washington’s unique ability to bring folklore, literary tales, and personal narratives to life.

Super Saturday is celebrating its 40th season this year with five venues of performers and everything from aerialists to paper-cutting Mr. Cheng on Melrose Avenue. A special end-of-the-day concert by Woody Cowan and the Special Edition band honors four decades of volunteers who have made Super Saturday happen. This final event of the day is funded by the Polk County Community Foundation.
