John D. Gray, 71, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 31, 2018 at Park Ridge Hospital.

He was the son of Gwen Gray Bailey of Tryon NC and the Late John C. Gray. He was preceded in death by two brothers Glenn Charles Gray and Clifford Scott Gray.

He was a Captain in the US Army. After his military service he pursued a career in sales. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and the Yellow Farm where he was brought up in Marshall MI. He loved traveling with his wife Peggy, talking to everyone he came across, he never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife Peggy Gray, his son John D. Gray Jr. and his wife Karen of Greenville, SC, a step – son Hugh Rutledge and his wife Lindsay of Hendersonville, a step – daughter Angela Rutledge and her husband Dan O’Conell of Asheville, four grandchildren, Jack, Amelia and Charlie Gray of Greenville and Ashton Rutledge of Hendersonville, one brother Robert Clark Gray and his wife Beverly of Landrum, SC and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday February 04, 2018 at 2 PM at the Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with the Rev. Mike Lombardo officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard.
