Music classes for all ages start on Jan. 17 at Tryon Fine Arts Center. The Pacolet Junior Appalachian Musician (PacJAM) program provides beginning and intermediate instruction in guitar, mandolin, banjo, and fiddle for students ages 6 and up, as well as adult learners. Kids ages 5 and 6 can get a hands-on introduction to music with ukulele classes. PacJAM’s expert instructors include top roots music performers from across the region that will give personalized instruction in a small group session. PacJAM is the local affiliate of the regional Junior Appalachian Musician program that works to preserve Appalachian music traditions across the southeast. The 10-week session begins Wednesday, January 17 with weekly classes through March 21. One-hour classes start between 4 and 7 p.m. There is a fee for the class. There’s still time to register-just call Tryon Fine Arts Center at 828-859-8322 or email pacjam@tryonarts.org. (photo submitted by Michelle Fleming)
