TubaChristmas and the community

When Stan and Jean Howell brought the first TubaChristmas to Polk County 20 years ago, it was primarily through their own efforts. As the program grew they involved more of the county and its residents. Support has come from organizations like the Polk County Foundation, Rotary and Tryon Estates.
Individuals have come on board as Organizer, registration, treasurers, publicity, and especially the ushers with their Christmas hats. The high school has also been helpful.
The County Board of Commissioners has lent support over the years and the police help with traffic control.
Community support is felt the most when the audience starts to arrive at 1 p.m., many dressed for the season and with lots of smiles. A frequently heard comment is “This is how we start the Christmas season in our family,” as young and old make their way into the auditorium.
Remember – TubaChristmas, Saturday, Dec. 2, 1:30 p.m. at the Polk County High School. Come to listen to the brass instruments and to lend your voice to the singing of several carols.
