Lt. Col. Charles Ayers and cadets from Burns High School’s Air Force JROTC program visited Polk County Middle School on Nov. 2 to share information on aviation with students in the school’s STEM class.

Lt. Col. Ayers and the cadets – Carly Brackett, Shan-asia Rodgers and Lucio Chavez – shared information on flight controls through use of a model airplane and then took students outside to pilot a drone.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students in future classes were invited to visit Burns High School to take a test flight on their flight simulator as the school is the only one in North or South Carolina to have an Aviation Honors Academy. Burns High School is in Lawndale, N.C.
