Federal flag law myths and misunderstandings

Recently, Robert Williamson, curator of the only House of Flags Museum in America in Columbus, N.C., spoke to the Rotary Club of Tryon regarding many unknown laws, myths and proper respect for the American flag. Williamson is a card-carrying vexillologist, one who studies flags and flag history. His interest in flags began when he was 2 years old and his grandfather taught him that “any day was flag day.” He is also in the final stages of writing the only book ever researched and written on the history of the “Flag of the President of the United States – 1775 to 2000,” making him a forensic vexillologist.
