COLUMBUS-Columbus police officers may look a little scruffy for the next month, but it’s for a good cause.

The police department decided to turn “No Shave November” into a fundraiser for the Veterans Park fund. Officers have already raised $300 for participating.

Columbus Police Chief Chris Beddingfield said the fundraising has received a lot of positive feedback.

Beddingfield presented the check to Bevin Corbin, VFW Post 9116 post commander this week.

The officers will not shave from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15 and raise as much money as possible for Veteran’s Park. Beddingfield said his officers not shaving is a big deal because the department has a strict policy of no facial hair.

The department posted the fundraiser on Facebook recently.

“You may notice an appearance change in officers of the Columbus Police Department over the next four weeks,” states the post. “Officers will be participating in ‘no shave November’ from 11/15-12/15.”

Officers paid $30 each to participate and after looking at several local nonprofits, decided to raise money for the Columbus Veterans Park fund.

Anyone who would like to sponsor an officer or make a donation is urged to contact the Columbus Police Department at 828-894-5464.
