TubaChristmas players and instruments

Published 2:26 pm Monday, November 13, 2017

The players come in all sizes and so do the instruments that they play. If you attend the TubaChristmas concert on Dec. 2 at the Polk County High School you can expect to see players ranging in age from 9 to 90. One of the goals of the program is to encourage the younger, newer players. We expect that, in addition to the six from PCHS, there will be groups from several colleges. It is also nice to see the mature retirees who have dusted off their instruments and gotten their lips back in shape.

Most of the instruments will be tubas, of course, and euphonia. You may also see an instrument that looks like a trumpet on steroids which will have the same sound as the baritone horn. You will recognize the sousaphones, also. These instruments have been developed to be used in marching bands in styles that are easier to carry.

The date is Dec. 2, the time is 1:30 p.m., and the place is the auditorium of Polk County High School. And the cost is free. Put it on your calendar today.
