Upstairs Artspace is pleased to present their fall fundraiser, a reception at the gallery and the groundbreaking film, “Loving Vincent” on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Tryon Theatre. In honor of the occasion, the gallery is serving hors d’oeuvres inspired by the Provence region of France along with French wine prior to the film at 6 p.m.

You have seen his “Sunflowers” in a museum, sung along with Don McLean to “Vincent (Starry Starry Night)” and been amazed at the tens of million of dollars his works have realized at auction. But you have never seen Vincent Van Gogh’s art quite like it is shown in the film “Loving Vincent.”

Critics are calling this first ever fully oil painted film “unbelievably stunning,” “quite astonishing,” and “a masterpiece in its own right.” Over 65,000 frames were hand painted with oil paints by 125 professional artists some of whom traveled from around the world to be part of this seven year long project. The film uses more that 130 of the Dutch artist’s own paintings to tell his own story.

The reception starts at the Upstairs Artspace at 6 p.m. and attendees will walk next door to the movie theatre for the film at 7. Tickets are available at the gallery in person or by phone (828-859-2828) and at Eventbrite.com.

Upstairs Artspace is a non-profit organization that relies on private donations, sales of art, grants and fundraising events.
