Edmund Schley Henry, age 88, of White Oak, Tryon, N.C., died on Oct. 1, 2017.
Ed was born in Floral Park, N.Y. on Long Island on April 25, 1929 to the late Harold and Elsie Gesing Henry. His brother William also preceded him in death.
He earned a PhD in English literature from the University of Rochester in 1976. He was a much-loved professor of English at Wofford College, teaching from September 1970 until his retirement in May 1997.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Doris Henry; and his children, Shelley Sperka, Robin Henry (Nancy Ninteman), Mark Henry, and Kim Henry (Jeff Haslam); along with grandchildren Whitney Henry, Adrian Sperka, Caitlin Thomas (Geoffrey), Chrissy Baka (Tim), Eddie Rustin (Emily Norton), Molly Ludden (Scott) and Joe Olsen. He had six great grandchildren: Davis Sperka, Ryker Sperka, Rocco Baka, Cecelia Baka, Henry Rustin, and Charlie Rustin.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Dorothy Henry, and his loving extended family.
Services will be held in January, 2018.
