Shirley Darnell McCurry

Shirley Darnell McCurry, 81, of Lynn, N.C., went home to be with the Lord after a long illness, Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.

Born in Inman, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Major William Bennett and Willie Mae Loveless Darnell. Shirley retired from CYP in 1994. She loved to cook, sew, and travel. She was also a volunteer with Girl Scouts years ago. Shirley was a member of Lynn First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Billy Edward McCurry; two daughters, Terri McCurry Raburn (Garland) of Columbus, N.C., and Traci McCurry Gregory (Paul) of Tryon, N.C.; a son, Timothy William McCurry of Lynn, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; a brother in law, Bud Barnett of Taylors, S.C. Also surviving are two lifelong friends, Alma Purser of Greensboro, N.C. and Jean Seelow of Bremerton, Wash. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was predeceased by two sisters, Oveida Barnett and Mary Lou Stillwell, and a grandson, McKinley William McCurry.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers, the staff at Landrum Dialysis, and the staff of Polk County Transportation who cared for Shirley and her family during her illness, especially Richard, Angela, and Fran.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 in Lynn First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Owens and Dr. Jesse Yarbrough officiating.

Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
