Three popular artists coming to teach workshops at Tryon Painters and Sculptors.
The studio space at Tryon Painters and Sculptors will be a busy place this fall. Several nationally known artists have been scheduled to teach workshops at the gallery at 78 North Trade Street in Tryon.
Coming soon is Beverly Kies, an award winning pastel artist from Hendersonville who will be sharing her talents with students using soft pastels. Her interest in art began at the age of five, when her mother sent her to the Atlanta School of Art. This early passion eventually led to a degree in art education from The Ohio State University.
Although she has worked in other mediums, pastels are what she loves. “The immediacy of pastels and the layering of colors works well for me.” Some people associate pastels with muted colors, but in Beverly’s paintings the colors explode off the paper. Her paintings are represented in a medley of work, with her most recent emphasis on the animal world, primarily horses, dogs, cats, bears, and cows.
Beverly was recently featured as a guest artist in a Tryon Painters and Sculptors gallery show and in the “Bring Us Your Best” exhibit at Blue Ridge Community College where she was a past award winner.
Beverly’s workshop is coming soon on Saturday September 9 and Sunday, September 10.
George Scribner is an artist and filmmaker who worked the Walt Disney Company for more than thirty years. George recently completed a series of original oil paintings documenting the construction of Shanghai Disneyland. He not only painted scenes documenting the construction of this massive entertainment complex but also directed animation projects for a number of new attractions.
Even though George lives in California, he travels throughout the country doing workshops and recently taught in Orlando, Florida where he instructed one of the Tryon Painters and Sculptors members who recommended his workshop highly.
George will teach a workshop in Tryon on October 3 & 4 in oil painting and Plein air painting.
Jane Snyder, a watercolorist has had the opportunity to study under a number of nationally and internationally known watercolor artists including Zoltan Szabo, Mel Stabin, Don Andrews and others.
She is passionate about teaching watercolor and drawing. Inspired by the belief that drawing and painting are learned skills, her focus is to guide others towards expanding their own perceptual skill and learned technical proficiency. Jane’s work can be seen at the Asheville Gallery of Art and in the latest issue of The Laurel of Asheville magazine.
Jane will be teaching a two-day workshop on November 13 & 14 at the TPS gallery.
Tryon Painters and Sculptors also has ongoing classes in figure drawing from a model, head study (portraits) from live models and sculpture classes. For more information about classes, and workshops go to the TPS website: www.tryonpaintersandsculptors.com or call the gallery at 828-859-0141. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11am to 5:00pm.
