Celebrating National Senior Citizens Day

To celebrate the contributions of senior citizens to our community on National Senior Citizens Day, McFarland’s Funeral Chapel and Crematory bought lunch for all the seniors receiving Meals on Wheels in Polk County on that day. The staff dropped by just as meals were being packed and volunteer drivers were gathering to begin their rounds to deliver a check for the 97 meals served to the home bound throughout the county.

Pam Doty, manager of the Polk County Senior Services, said, “We are delighted and grateful to the staff of McFarland’s for their commitment to the community and, particularly to our program. On a day which celebrates the contributions of seniors it is an appropriate expression of the respect which we have for these members of our society.

Polk County’s Meals on Wheels program is located at The Meeting Place in Columbus with satellite sites in Green Creek and Saluda. Nutritious meals are delivered by a faithful cadre of volunteer drivers five days a week.
