Congregational Church welcomes Dr. Lyle as director of music, organist

Susan Lyle hails from Escanaba, Mich., and currently lives with her husband, Dr. Patrick Edwards, and their two cats in Spartanburg, S.C. She earned her BA in music education from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich., her MM in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and her DMA in vocal performance/choral conducting from the University of Oregon in Eugene. Susan has been a member of faculty of the Petrie School of Music at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. since 1996.

She has served churches of various denominations as director of music/organist in three cities in South Carolina; Titusville, Pa.; Eugene, Ore.; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Baltimore, Md.; and Kalamazoo, Mich.

Dr. Lyle has appeared as soloist in a variety of productions all over the world.  Outside of the role of being the director of her church choirs, a favorite operatic role has been as “Carmen” by George Bizet.

Susan is excited to be the Congregational Church’s new director of music/organist and looks forward to working with all in the chancel choir, congregation, and community.

Susan will be back playing the organ on July 30.  The church invites the community to its 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service to welcome her and enjoy her musical direction.
