Virginia Davis Johnson

Virginia Davis Johnson of Hendersonville, N.C. went home to be with her Lord June 2, 2017.
She was born on December 4, 1937 in Polk County, N.C., and was the daughter of William Renn Davis and Gladys Arledge Davis.
She was an energetic three year old and while playing with friends in Saluda, injured her leg. She developed osteomyelitis and spent her early childhood years in various hospitals around the United States, including the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, S.C. Virginia was among the first patients ever to be treated with penicillin.
She was a native of Saluda, N.C. After graduating from Saluda High School, she attended Spartanburg General Hospital School of Radiology, and worked as an X-ray technician.
In 1960, she married Jack W. Johnson of Saluda, N.C. The couple moved to Hendersonville, N.C. where she was an office employee of General Electric Corporation.
In her later years, she worked with Lawrence Ward in his office at Ward’s Auto Supply and with John Pace in his office at Tarheel Paving.
Virginia loved her Lord and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of East Flat Rock, N.C. She loved her church family and always looked forward to Bible study, church outings, and trips.
She loved her family and was affectionately known to them as “Nina.” She also loved her friends, and was known to her close friends as “VA.”
She was preceded in death by her father, William Renn Davis, her mother, Gladys Davis; one brother William George “Bill” Davis; four sisters, Lucille Sappington, Ruby Splawn, Ann Patterson, and Barbara Walker.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jack W. Johnson of Dade City, Fla., and one sister, Judy Davis Hyder Rowland of Hendersonville, N.C., and Zephyrhills, Fla. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 in First Baptist Church of East Flat Rock, N.C., with the Reverend Brent Thomas and Reverend Jeff Neelands, officiating.
A greeting of friends will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. with services immediately following at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Saluda City Cemetery, Saluda, N.C.
