National Day of Prayer May 4

The 66th Annual National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 4. Members from area churches will gather on the Polk County Courthouse steps in Columbus at 12:20 p.m. to pray together for the nation, its leaders, the military, for state and local governments, for public safety workers and law enforcement officers.

President Truman first established the National Day of Prayer in 1952 and in 1988 President Reagan amended the law to designate the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.

National and local observances are held around the country, and citizens are encouraged to turn their thoughts to God, seeking his provision, protection, and guidance for America, its leaders, and our communities.
