Young artists to be honored at reception, April 23

“I have learned as an artist to focus on my immediate surrounds, and pull my source of inspiration from my community,” said Laura Ford, a Landrum High School student and participant in the 2017 Evening of Excellence on Sunday, April 23 at Tryon Fine Arts Center. “As the creator, I feel more connected to my neighborhood and I end up appreciating the overlooked basic things that hold much beauty in my community.”

Ford’s watercolor “Lake Lanier” was awarded third place in Painting in the Evening of Excellence juried high school art competition. Students from eight area schools are represented.

Sunday’s reception begins at 4 p.m. and celebrates young artists and their teachers with music, hors d’oeuvres and live and silent art auctions. Proceeds go directly to the artists and help support the Be Inspired Grant program for educators. Tickets are available at tryonarts.org or by calling 828-859-8322.
