The wildflowers are popping up everywhere in Pearson’s Falls Glen. On Tuesday, April 4, David Campbell will lead a walk to the falls pointing out large displays of trillium, trout lily and saxifrage and many less prominent flowers. The rain date is Thursday, April 6. The Tryon Garden Club sponsors the walk.

Campbell is a botanist and ecologist who specializes in locating and studying rare and unusual plants in the southeast United States. Campbell is working for Pacolet Area Conservancy on a floristic and biodiversity study of Polk County. He also writes a newspaper article, “Polk County’s Most Wanted,” highlighting rare and unique flora, fauna and habitats that may occur in our county.

The guided walks start at 10:15 a.m. and last until noon. They begin with a brief introduction in the Garden House. Then the speaker will lead the group up the quarter mile trail to the falls pointing out wildflowers, plants, rocks and ferns along the way.

There is an admission fee to Pearson’s Falls and a small charge for the guided walk. All proceeds go to trail maintenance. An annual pass to Pearson’s Falls is also available. Admission is free for Tryon Garden Club members. Registration is necessary as class size is limited. Attendees may want to bring paper, pencil, hat, camera, walking stick, and water.
