Dr. Gillian Newberry to lead nature walk March 30

The Tryon Garden Club is pleased to announce that Dr. Gillian Newberry, retired botanist from the University of South Carolina Upstate, is back by popular demand and will lead a two-hour class on the unique character of Pearson’s Falls Glen on Thursday, March 30 at 10:15 a.m.

Newberry will point out many unusual plants and wildflowers as the group hikes up the Glen to the Falls. Registration is limited, so call the Pearson’s Falls gatehouse at 828-749-3031 to register. There is a fee for the class and an admission fee to Pearson’s Falls. Annual passes are available.

Class participants will meet at the garden house at Pearson’s Falls at 2748 Pearson Falls Rd. in Saluda 15 minutes prior to class. Attendees may want to bring a notebook, pen, walking stick, water, and any wildflower books, and plan to see Sweet Betsy trillium, toothwort, Oconee bells, and many other flowering plants. In the case of rain, Newberry’s class will be held on Monday, April 3.
