POLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT RESULTS

In Polk County District Court on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, with Judge Pete Knight presiding, 115 cases were heard. Some cases were continued, dismissed or sent to superior court.

The following persons were convicted of a crime:

Osca Aguazul-Marcelino was convicted of resisting public officer and failure to notify DMV of address change. Aguazul-Marcelino was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation, a $50 fine and court costs.

Melissa S. Chenoweth was convicted of operating a vehicle with improper equipment. Chenoweth was fined $40 and court costs.

Heather D. Gray was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Gray was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

Michael Eburg Hall was convicted of misdemeanor probation violation. Hall’s probation was terminated successfully.

Lauren Taylor Hooks was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Hooks was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

James Edward Pearson was convicted of speeding 64 mph in a 55 mph zone. Pearson was fined $30 and court costs.

Joshua Peterson was convicted of level four driving while impaired. Peterson was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation, two days in jail, a $50 fine and court costs.

Joshua Peterson was convicted of driving while license revoked-not impaired revocation. Peterson was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for time served.

Maraline L. Proctor was convicted of failure to notify DMV of address change. Proctor was fined $50 and court costs.

Christopher A. Reemes was convicted of two counts of failure to appear on misdemeanor. Reemes was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation, a $50 fine and court costs.

Corey Dazre Stripling was convicted of failure to appear on misdemeanor. Stripling was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation and court costs.

Hernandez J. Valdez was convicted of speeding 79 mph in a 65 mph zone. Valdez was fined $92 and court costs.

Evelyn Valdezgonzalez was convicted of operating a vehicle with improper equipment. Valdezgonzalez was fined $40 and court costs.

Tiffany Dawn Watkins was convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia, injury to personal property and resisting public officer. Watkins was sentenced to 21 days in jail with credit for time served.

COLUMBUS FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT

During the month of February 2017, the Columbus Fire Department answered 129 calls for service.

Calls included:

Town of Columbus: 14 medical assists to EMS, six EMS calls, one motor vehicle accident with no injuries, two aircraft standby, one service call other, two persons in distress, one animal rescue, three public service, one cover assignment, one dispatched and cancelled, one no incident found, one false alarm, one smoke detector activation, two special type of incident;

Columbus Township: one cooking fire, one brush fire, two grass fires, 35 medical assists to EMS, one emergency medical service, nine EMS calls, one motor vehicle accident with injuries, one gas leak, two power lines down, two aircraft standby, one service call, one lock-out, three public service, one dispatched and cancelled, three authorized controlled burning, one smoke scare, one false alarm, three alarm system sounded, one unintentional transmission of alarm, four alarm activation (no fire) and one special type of incident;

Mill Spring: one dispatched and cancelled, one brush fire, one forest/woods fire; Rutherfordton: one dispatched and cancelled; Saluda: two dispatched and cancelled; Tryon: one building fire and one medical assist to EMS.

The Columbus Fire Department also received more than 419 hours of training during the month of February.

COLUMBUS POLICE DEPARTMENT

During the month of February 2017, the Columbus Police Department answered 576 calls for service.

There were three felony arrests, nine misdemeanor arrests, two driving while impaired arrests and 17 fugitives arrested.

Charges included 27 speeding citations, 14 no operator’s license, six driving while license revoked, two drug charges, two uninsured motorists, five careless and reckless driving, 19 registration violations and one open container.

Officers completed 7,469 premise checks, including 159 residential checks, 7,108 business checks and 202 church checks.

The Columbus Police Department was requested to assisted other agencies 16 times for a total of 14.05 hours, completed 283 community patrols and received 160 hours of training.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY ARREST REPORT

March 15

Joe Brown, 24, from Landrum was arrested and charged with grand larceny. Brown’s bond is set at $3,500.

March 16

Tristin Jolley, 20, from Landrum was arrested and charged with a municipal court offense. Jolley’s bond is set at $615.

March 18

Jenna Powell, 23, from Landrum was arrested and charged with DUS, uninsured vehicle fee, possession of drug paraphernalia and use of tag on wrong vehicle.
