Lacemakers to meet in Tryon Saturday

The Tryon Lacemakers are having their first monthly gathering in Tryon on Saturday, March 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lanier Library, 72 Chestnut St. in Tryon. Bring your bobbin lace or tatting supplies and join us for a relaxing time of lacing.

We have one member, Connie Boles of Tryon, who was recently recognized in the North Carolina Regional Lacers newsletter for her piece of bobbin lace after having only four classes.  Connie has been taking lessons from Michelle Chase, past president of the North Carolina Regional Lacers of Fort Lawn, S.C. here in Tryon.

Connie said, “I found the website (lyndasbookbinding.com/my-lace/torchon-lace/) with a picture of the Old Tree and a link to the original instructions and pricking diagram created by Lenka Suchanek. I was intrigued with the design.”

The “Old Tree” used 11 pairs of cordonnet #80, one pair of #30 and two pair of a thicker thread than was not marked. Connie continues taking classes with Michelle and is currently working on Russian Tape Lace designs, including an angel from the book “Angels in Russian Tape Lace” by Sonne.
