Tryon AAUW to host National Park Service ranger, March 27

The guest speaker for the March meeting of the Tryon branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be Janene Donovan from the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, N.C.

Janene is the park ranger in charge of the goat barn operations at the Historic Connemara Farms Dairy. She will be giving a presentation about Mrs. Lilian Steichen Sandburg’s life, including her fight to be an educated woman and the early days of her engagement to Carl Sandburg, as well as the history of the goat herd, how and why she got involved with goats and her legacy of outstanding achievement in the national dairy goat world.

She will also talk about the status of the house and barn renovations that have been on-going for the past several years. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting is at the Tryon Presbyterian Church on Harmon Field Road on Monday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m.
