Throughout the last 25 years, Tryon residents Marie and Steve King’s commitment to Foothills Humane Society (FHS) has been unwavering.

Steve has served a term as president of the board of directors and been active on a number of pertinent committees. They continue to foster dogs requiring specialized attention to improve each animal’s health and still today, Steve is involved in the shelter’s partnership with Polk County’s Outreach Ministry. He proficiently performs “honey do” chores making repairs or painting while Marie washes food bowls and sees to the day’s laundry. On hands and knees in the shelter’s memorial garden or pavilion patio, Steve has installed the majority of memorial bricks purchased over the years to honor beloved family members or pets of citizens who support the mission of FHS. Dogs are often transported to adoption events by Marie and Steve where they assist the shelter’s adoption staff in matching dogs to suitable adopters.

All nonprofit organizations are heavily dependent on the dedication of volunteers and although a more detailed list of duties performed by Marie and Steve are too numerous to be listed in the space allowed, we value their committed dedication to our mission and we look forward to our continued relationship.

We encourage all readers to give serious consideration to volunteering for any of the many non profit organizations in our community. They need your help and will be thankful for it.
