Polk County wrapped up its regular-season schedule on Tuesday, dropping a 54-30 decision to Madison in a Western Highlands Conference wrestling match at Polk.

The Patriots kept the match close early, then won five of the final six matches of the night, two of those by forfeit, to take the win.

Triston Watkins gave Polk County its first points of the night with a second-period pin in the 113-pound match. Preston Burnett’s win by forfeit at 126 pounds kept the match even, though Madison surged ahead 24-12 thanks to a win and forfeit.

Mitchell Yoder earned a win in a competitive match at 145 pounds after Madison’s Kris Bollo had to leave the match due to an injury. Dillon Knighton’s win by forfeit at 152 pounds evened the score at 24-24.

But the Patriots captured the next five matches to seal the team win. Heavyweight Devin Panchyshyn then ended the night on a positive note, pinning Madison’s Luke Suirett in just 16 seconds.

The Wolverines will now turn their focus to individual competition, taking part in the WHC tourney on Friday at Madison.
