Tryon Little Theater’s upcoming musical production opens at the Tryon Fine Arts Center Feb. 16 -19. The show is a parody of the American musical comedy of the 1920s.
It starts with a man in a chair putting on his favorite record, the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
The recording comes to life and the show begins as the man in the chair looks on.
The plot incorporates mistaken identities, dream sequences, spit takes, an unflappable English butler, an absent-minded dowager, comic gangsters, a ditzy chorus girl, a harried best man and an aviatrix. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
With Dan Harvey directing, Pam McNeil as musical director and Missy Fincher as choreographer, it promises to be an evening of entertaining fun. Written by Bob Martin and Don McKellar with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, “The Drowsy Chaperone” has won five Tony awards and seven Drama Desk awards.
Tickets are available for purchase online at tltinfo.org or call 828-859-2466.
