Wolverine basketball teams swept at Hendersonville

Polk County’s basketball teams suffered a long evening Friday in Hendersonville, dropping all four games to the host Bearcats in Western Highlands Conference play.

The Wolverine girls fell 72-36 to Hendersonville. Polk County’s odds of a road win took an early hit as standout Ansley Lynch suffered a knee injury some two minutes into the game.

Junior Autumn Owen scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Polk County, which also got three points from Mariah Overholt and two points from Bella Marino.

Polk County dropped to 1-13, 0-6 with the loss. Hendersonville improved to 1-8, 1-4.

In boys play, Hendersonville earned a 75-44 victory, using its defense to spark two key runs in the second and third periods.

Polk County dropped to 2-12, 0-6 with the loss. Hendersonville improved to 7-3, 3-2.

The Polk junior varsity girls fell 37-26. Haley Fowler scored 10 points to lead the Wolverines, with Paulina Harden scoring eight and Amy Chupp, Jennifer Guerrero, Kiri Ashley and Makalya Staley each scoring two.

With exams set for this coming week at Polk County, the Wolverines will be off until Friday, when Mountain Heritage visits for a Western Highlands Conference clash. Thursday’s planned games at Madison will be rescheduled due to exams.
