Polk County in third place in Conference Cup standings after fall season

Polk County sits in third place in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup standings for the Western Highlands Conference after the completion of the fall sports season.
The Wolverines trail Hendersonville and Mountain Heritage in the competition that recognizes overall athletic excellence.
Wells Fargo, along with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, sponsors the Wells Fargo Cup award, which recognizes the schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications. The Wells Fargo Conference Cup is a companion to the Wells Fargo Cup and recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. Wachovia, and now Wells Fargo, has sponsored the conference awards program since 1980.
Hendersonville accumulated 81.5 points in the fall season thanks to championships in volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s golf and women’s cross country along with a first-place finish in football. Mountain Heritage shared the football title and has 61.5 points, followed by Polk County with 60 points thanks in part to its second-place finish in volleyball.
The complete WHC Conference Cup standings: Hendersonville 81.5, Mountain Heritage 65.5, Polk County 60, Owen 53.5, Avery County 44.5, Madison 35, Mitchell 24.
In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points.
