Harmon Field tennis courts shaping up with new surface

TRYON-After being out of commission for six months following a vehicle crash, the tennis courts at Harmon Field now have new flex court surfacing.
The Town of Tryon negotiated with four insurance companies following the accident that occurred during the Blue Ridge Barbecue and Music Festival in June.
The town eventually received approximately $50,000 from its insurance to replace three of the four courts with new flex court surfaces.
The town still has to replace the fencing around the courts, as well as benches, which were also destroyed in the crash.
The town had discussed replacing half the courts with flex court and half with asphalt but the Harmon Field Board of Supervisors decided to replace the damaged courts with flex courts so they would be the same as before the wreck. One court on the end was not damaged and was left as is.
“Three courts are playable as of last week. The fourth court is getting finished this week or next. We had issues with the net sleeve. Travis has done a great job of getting everything done fast. Fencing should be done in under a month. We are waiting to finish the court,” said Zach Ollis, Tryon town manager.
