TRYON – The Town of Tryon has approved a preliminary plat for a new subdivision along Markham Road.

Tryon Town Council met Tuesday, Dec. 13 and approved the subdivision, which will include seven lots at 55 Markham Road.

Tryon Community Development Director Paula Kempton said the Board of Planning and Adjustment approved the subdivision on Dec. 1. She said it will create a subdivision in the town’s R4 zoning district.

Kempton also said a buffer of trees will surround the development. The final plat will also be submitted to the town for approval by the board of commissioners.

Commissioner Roy Miller asked where exactly the subdivision will be located.

Kempton answered that as soon as you turn on Markham, it is the second house.

The preliminary plans have been submitted by Tom and Lainie Coeby, with the major subdivision to be called Story Brook Village Subdivision. The parcel number to the property is T7-AB.

The project will create a seven-lot subdivision with the lots arranged around a private street with common green space. At 1,200-1,400 square feet, the scale of the proposed houses will be consistent with surrounding development.

Commissioner Bill Ingham said he’d like to see some use out of that property, which has been unoccupied for a while.

Commissioner Crys Armbrust said he attended the planning board meeting.

“It was a great presentation and I think it will be wonderful for that area in terms of spurring some growth,” said Armbrust.
