Polk County’s wrestling squad will next step onto the mat competitively in January.

Head coach Phillip Miller thinks the Wolverines will be a much different looking squad when that day arrives.

Polk County wrapped up its pre-holiday schedule on Tuesday, hosting Chesnee (S.C.) and Smoky Mountain in a tri-match. The Wolverines dropped a 72-6 decision to Smoky Mountain and a 53-18 decision to Chesnee.

Still looking to settle its lineup, Polk County got a pin at 113 pounds from Triston Watkins for its lone points against Smoky Mountain. Watkins was also a winner in the nightcap with Chesnee, also by pin, with Dillon Knighton scoring a fall at 152 pound and Carlos Sedano winning by forfeit at 160.

“We haven’t won very much, but we’ll still be all right,” Miller said. “We had a few people sick tonight. We’re still where we want to be.

“January 3, when Avery comes in, hopefully good things will happen.”
