Enjoy Shepherd’s Feast on Christmas Day

When Dave and Carlann Scherping decided to take over the Christmas Day Shepherd’s Feast after Ross Fox passed away, they were not really sure how to reconstruct the event without Ross. The Tryon Daily Bulletin got the initial word out that the feast was on, but help was needed. Volunteers began to show up a few at a time.
The Scherpings knew where the food came from on the preparation day, but they had no idea that almost everything was donated. One by one, local businesses stepped forward to volunteer their help by donating food and their expertise. It wasn’t long before the feast began to take shape.
Be sure to say thank you to the businesses that make this feast possible: The Brick, Girardini Trattoria, IGA Supermarket, Mountain View BBQ, The Meeting Place Senior Center, McFarland’s Bakery, Standing Stone Breads, and Wildflour Bakery.
There are also the behind the scenes contributions that certainly need to be recognized:
McKinsey Printing Company, Nature’s Storehouse, and Andy Haynes Law Firm. Holy Cross Episcopal Church furnishes white tablecloths and Christmas china to make the feast even more festive.
Dave and Carlann want to thank the almost 60 volunteers who will be preparing the food on Dec. 23 and serving on Christmas Day. If you have not had a chance to volunteer, but you would like to help out, the best volunteer job is still available, and you don’t even have to sign up for it! Simply come on Christmas Day and eat with your community neighbors, meet some new friends, hang around and visit, sit with someone who is alone.
That is the whole idea of this Christmas Day Feast. We have all the cooks and servers that we can possibly use, but the gift of your presence is still very much needed. Greet your neighbors on Christmas Day and help make it the best day of the year for everyone.
The Shepherd’s Feast is served on Christmas Day at Polk County Middle School from 1 – 4 p.m.
