Polk board of elections ordered to hold recount of auditor race

COLUMBUS– The Polk County Board of Elections will hold a recount on Thursday, Dec. 8 for the N.C. State Auditor’s race.

The N.C. State Board of Elections alerted Polk County this week that a recount has been called for the race between Beth Wood (D) and Chuck Stuber (D). According to the N.C. State Board of Elections, Wood received 2,259,383 votes, or 50.07 percent, over Stuber’s 2,253,390 votes, or 49.93 percent.

Polk County voters chose Stuber with 6,311 votes over Wood with 4,068 votes, according to the state board of election figures.

Polk County’s recount will take place in the Womack building in Columbus on Thursday at 9 a.m.

The procedure is open to the public. Polk County Board of Elections Director Cliff Marr said he anticipates the recount to take 1-2 hours.
