Tuba Christmas musicians to entertain at concert

So, who will be playing in the 19th concert of TubaChristmas, on Dec. 3, 1:30, at Polk County High School? One of the goals of Merry TubaChristmas, the national organization behind this program, is to spread the appreciation for the brass instruments to the next generation.

Some of the players may come from middle schools and we expect seven students from Polk County High School. There will also be a group from Limestone College that will be playing a special number. The student soloist, playing “O Holy Night” on his euphonium, will be Malik Rowland.  He will be part of the group from Western Carolina University.

There will be adults of all ages and from every walk of life. Some of them have been playing in local bands and others had to stop for their working years. After retiring, when it is time pick up old hobbies, it may be 40 years since they used the mouthpiece. The stage will be set for about 50 players.

Conducting all of this will be Jamie Hafner, from Brevard. He is an accomplished tubist and this will be his third year on our stage. Sharing the baton will be Cindy Gilbert, band director at Polk County High School. Karen Killough will be accompanying Mr. Rowland, on the piano.

All this is awaiting you on Dec. 3, at the 19th annual free concert, at 1:30 p.m. at Polk County High School. Come, smile, sing and enjoy the musical sounds of the Christmas season.
