► Little free library approved for McCreery Park in Saluda
The Saluda Board of Commissioners approved the installation of a little free library at McCreery Park downtown. The Polk County Public Library has been planning free libraries around the county. Commissioners approved the library during its Monday, Nov. 14 meeting. Children from Saluda School are decorating the library, which will be watertight to protect the books. Residents can take a book and leave a book through the library.
► PCCF grants Tryon $4,500 for Christmas parade
The Polk County Community Foundation (PCCF) recently awarded a $4,500 grant to the Town of Tryon for the annual Christmas parade. Town manager Zach Ollis announced the award to commissioners during the town’s Tuesday, Nov. 15 meeting. Ollis thanked PCCF for the generous gift and said this year’s parade, scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. will be similar to other years with the town using the grant money for face painting, hot chocolate, balloons and kazoos for children. The parade’s rain date is Dec. 21.
► Tryon museum plans historic home tour
The Tryon Historical Museum is planning a Tour of Historic Tryon Homes for Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tryon council met Tuesday, Nov. 15 and heard from Happy McLeod regarding the tour. The tour will begin at the Harmon Field Log Cabin with shuttles buses taken people to the homes of Mostly Hall, the Lindsay-Wagner House, Seven Hearths and the Harkness House. Tickets are on sale at Huckleberry’s, La Bouteille, Vines of Tryon, Down to Earth Garden Center or online at tryonhousetour.eventbrite.com. Council approved donating $500 to the museum for the event.
