Barbara Clare Chandler

Clare Chandler, 75, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12 at her Oak Hall home in Tryon, N.C.
Clare was the daughter of the late William Reeder Chandler and Clair Beatrice Chandler. Born in Oakland, Calif. on Nov. 4, 1941, her family moved to Beirut, Lebanon in August, 1947 where Tapline/ARAMCO employed her father as an engineer. She attended the American Community School of Beirut, Lebanon until the summer of 1958 when her family was evacuated from that country due to a civil war. Her family moved to Seattle where she attended Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. Clare graduated in 1959 and in 1965 received a degree in nursing from Seattle University. Clare worked at the Stanford University Hospital for several years. Clare moved to Tryon in 2012. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a volunteer at the Lanier Library and the Upstairs [Artspace].
Clare is survived by her sister Gail Chandler Hawkins, brother William Blaine Chandler II and two nephews, Glenn Chandler Hawkins and Craig Norwood Hawkins, all of Boise, Idaho.
Clare dearly loved this community and was so very appreciative that the Lord brought her to Tryon so she could enjoy meeting all the wonderful people here.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C.
