Prior to the fifth annual Hincapie Gran Fondo bicycle ride (a gathering of both amateur and professional cyclists from around the world) held Saturday, Oct. 22, members of the professional cycling team sponsored by Hincapie Sports of Greenville, S.C. spoke to the Kindergarten through fifth grade classes on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the school gym.
Team director, Thomas Craven, and team member, Mac Brennan, informed the students about various aspects of professional cycling, answered questions generated by each class, displayed specifics about a racing bicycle’s components, and gave every student in the school a team water bottle.
The day of the ride, students, teachers, and parents worked alongside Meals on Wheels of Greenville volunteers to run the Saluda School Rest Stop for the over 2,000 riders of the Gran Fondo. Despite the chill, riders and volunteers were warmed by the good cheer, WildFlour sticky buns, and music by Aaron Burdett.
