Polk County’s India Godlock closed her cross country career Saturday with her fastest time as a Wolverine, finishing seventh and earning all-state honors at the 2A state championship meet in Kernersville.
Godlock finished the 3.1-mile race in 19:39.11, breaking the 20-minute mark for the first time this season and topping the time of 19:41.21 she ran in the state championship meet as a freshman.
“She ran hard,” said Polk County head coach Alan Peoples. “It’s a nice way to end her cross country career. We’re very proud of her.”
Peoples said Appalachian State coaches showed interest in Godlock after the race, joining a handful of colleges recruiting the Wolverine standout.
Forbush’s Anna-Kathryn Kilby outkicked Brevard’s Eliza Witherspoon down the stretch to win the race with a time of 18:54.77, some three seconds ahead of Witherspoon.
Brevard captured the 2A girls team championship.
